The Kerala Legislative Assembly paid homage to renowned Malayalam actor and National Award winner Salim Kumar, who died on June 6 at the age of 56 in Kerala after a prolonged illness. Members of the House observed a minute's silence in memory of the actor after the Question Hour.
Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan remembered Kumar's outstanding contributions to Malayalam cinema and paid tribute to his long and influential career. The Assembly's homage comes amid an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, film personalities and fans across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier expressed grief over Kumar's death, remembering him as a versatile performer whose work left a lasting impact on Indian cinema. In a message shared on social media on June 7, he extended his condolences to the actor's family, friends and admirers.
Chief Minister of Kerala VD Satheesan also paid tribute to the actor, describing him as much more than a film star. Recalling Kumar's journey from a modest background in North Paravur to becoming one of Malayalam cinema's most respected performers, Satheesan said the actor remained deeply connected to the people who supported him throughout his career.
