Patriot box office Day 1: Mohanlal-Mammootty film posts strong global debut

Patriot opened strongly in theatres, earning Rs 29.37 crore worldwide on its first day. The Mohanlal and Mammootty reunion, backed by solid Kerala and overseas numbers, drove the opening.

Malayalam film Patriot, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty, opened in theatres on Friday, May 1, to a strong box office response, backed by heavy pre-release buzz and its star-studded cast.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 11.37 crore in India across 2,636 shows and added Rs 18 crore from overseas markets, taking its first-day worldwide total to Rs 29.37 crore.

The film’s opening was led by a strong performance in Kerala, where estimates suggested a collection of around Rs 8 crore Nett on Day 1. International markets also contributed significantly, helping Patriot get close to the Rs 30 crore-mark globally, in line with early projections.

Day 1 box office

Sacnilk data showed that Kerala emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s domestic earnings, while other markets in India added to the overall total. Overseas, the film collected Rs 18 crore, pushing its worldwide figure to Rs 29.37 crore after its first day in theatres.

The film recorded an overall occupancy of more than 70 per cent across morning, afternoon, evening, and night shows. The highest footfall was reported in Kochi and Kozhikode, followed by Thrissur, Kottayam and Kollam. Among other cities, Mumbai recorded an occupancy of 78 per cent, while Bengaluru posted 58 per cent. Further box office details are awaited.

Mohanlal-Mammootty reunion

The film marks the reunion of Mohanlal and Mammootty. The last time the two shared screen space in a full-length feature was Twenty 20 in 2008. Mohanlal later made a cameo in Mammootty’s Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty in 2013, but Patriot brings them together again in a full-fledged collaboration after more than a decade.

Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot also features Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Revathy in key roles.
