The role was famously played by Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network, a performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination. Strong's interpretation introduces a new phase of Zuckerberg's life, with the teaser hinting at the scrutiny and challenges that come with running one of the world's most influential technology companies.
What is The Social Reckoning about?
The film is based on The Facebook Files, the Wall Street Journal investigation that examined internal company documents and allegations surrounding Facebook's operations. The story follows a young engineer at the company who contacts a reporter, leading to revelations about closely guarded information within the organisation.
Alongside Strong, the cast includes Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr.
Why did Aaron Sorkin return to the story?
Speaking at CinemaCon, where the teaser was first screened, Sorkin explained his decision to revisit the world of Facebook after more than a decade.
"There isn't a life that Facebook's algorithm hasn't touched, and that influence has shaped everything. So it's time to say more," he said.
While David Fincher directed The Social Network, Sorkin wrote the screenplay and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. With The Social Reckoning, he takes on both writing and directing duties as the franchise returns to examine the company behind one of the most influential platforms of the modern era.
The film is slated for release on October 9.
