In Short

  • CBSE released revised scores for 87 per cent applicants on June 21
  • Nearly four lakh students sought over 11 lakh scanned answer sheets
  • Around 1.6 lakh candidates applied for verification and re-evaluation together

CUET UG results 2026 came out today with a mix of scores as students secured marks across the spectrum. One thing, however, was different this year. More than 20,000 CBSE Class 12 students had not received their re-evaluated marksheets at the time of writing this story.

On June 21, CBSE quietly released the revised results of around 87 per cent of students who had applied for re-evaluation.

In a post on X, the board stated that results for "Phase 1" had been declared and the remaining cases would be released in upcoming phases. Since then, there has been no official update on when the pending results will be announced.

The delay comes at a crucial time. CUET UG serves as the gateway to admissions in more than 280 central, state and private universities across India. For thousands of students awaiting revised marks, the uncertainty has now extended into the undergraduate admission season.

The re-evaluation process itself saw an unprecedented response this year. Following the declaration of Class 12 board results, students first applied for scanned copies of their answer sheets before opting for verification of marks and re-evaluation.

According to figures released by CBSE at different stages, nearly 4 lakh students applied for over 11 lakh scanned copies. Subsequently, around 1.6 lakh students applied for re-evaluation and verification, covering more than 4 lakh answer books.

The process has already led to significant changes in scores for many students. CBSE also got two new Class 12 toppers after re-evaluation, with their marks increasing enough to alter the final merit position. Several students have reported substantial jumps in marks following the exercise.

However, for the remaining 13 per cent of applicants – sitting at more than 20,500 students – the wait continues.

Many of them have not received any communication regarding the status of their applications or the timeline for the declaration of results.

Questions are now being raised over how these students will navigate the admission process if counselling and university applications move ahead before their revised marks are issued.

While universities primarily use CUET UG scores for admissions, revised board marks remain important for eligibility criteria, tie-breaking rules and admissions in institutions that consider Class 12 performance.

Throughout the re-evaluation cycle, communication from CBSE has remained limited. From the announcement of scanned copies to verification, re-evaluation and the release of revised marks, updates have largely been communicated through brief posts on X, with little clarification on timelines or the number of pending cases.

With CUET UG results now out and admissions set to gather pace, thousands of students continue to wait for clarity from CBSE on when the remaining re-evaluation results will be released.
