A touching moment from Ratan Tata’s social media journey has resurfaced. It was when Tata himself came to the defence of a woman who called him "chottu" in the comments section of a post shared by the industrialist on Instagram in 2020.

Ratan Tata, the billionaire known for his modesty and humility, died late Wednesday night at the age of 86.

It all started when Tata, chairman emeritus of the Tata Group, celebrated reaching one million followers on Instagram. To mark the milestone, he shared a picture of himself, thanking his followers for their love and support.

The post, unsurprisingly, was flooded with adoring comments, but one particular comment stirred up quite a reaction.

A user, who goes by the name Rhea Jain, said, “Congratulations chhotu,” paired with a heart emoji.

The comment didn’t sit well with several users, who trolled the woman for addressing the revered industrialist with what they felt was disrespect.

However, instead of letting the troll escalate, Ratan Tata himself intervened with a reply that was nothing short of graceful. “There is a child in each one of us. Please treat this young lady with respect,” he wrote, adding a smile emoji.

That one line instantly diffused the trolls and turned the conversation around.

Unfortunately, the woman, likely overwhelmed by the backlash, deleted her comment. When Tata noticed that, he shared his message on Instagram stories to call out the trolls and show solidarity with her.

"A very innocent young lady expressed her heartfelt sentiments yesterday and called me a kid in one of her comments," he wrote in the first story, adding, “She was bullied and disrespected for this, and in the end, she deleted her sentiments.”

In his characteristic empathetic tone, he added, “I appreciate and respect the heartfelt note that the young lady had left me, and hope she will not refrain from posting again.”

The story serves as a lasting testament to Ratan Tata’s incredible ability to bridge generations with kindness, even on a platform often known for its trolls. It was one of the many reasons why Tata remained a national treasure, right until the very end.
