Actor Rajesh Sharma, who was hospitalised in Kolkata earlier this month after suffering complications from an insect bite while shooting for Fauji, starring actor Prabhas, has recovered well and is expected to resume work in the next few days, according to FWICE President BN Tiwari.
Confirming the update to India Today, BN Tiwari said the actor has returned to Mumbai after receiving treatment in Kolkata.
"He has recovered well and has already come back to Mumbai from Kolkata, where he was hospitalised. His sugar levels had shot up leading to complications, but he is doing well now. He will also resume work in a few days," Tiwari said.
India Today reached out to Rajesh Sharma for a comment, but he did not respond till the time of filing this report.
The actor's health became a cause for concern after he was bitten by a suspected bug or poisonous spider while shooting for Fauji at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.
According to an official statement shared by actor Sudipa Chatterjee on social media on July 8, the incident took place after pack-up when Sharma was interacting with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation.
Initially, the bite did not appear serious, and Sharma did not seek immediate medical attention.
However, nearly six hours later, he began experiencing severe pain in his right leg and felt unwell. Despite his condition, he boarded a flight to Kolkata.
During the journey, the actor reportedly developed a high fever, became increasingly restless and his condition worsened. He was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria, Kolkata the following day.
In her statement, Chatterjee had revealed that Sharma was suffering from a rapidly spreading infection in his right leg, along with high fever and breathlessness.
The infection had spread from his toes to his knee, with large blisters developing on the affected area, while doctors continued to monitor his condition closely.
