Ramayana Mumbai event delayed by 4 hours, media told 'jana hai toh chale jao'

Media representatives staged a walkout at actor Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana event in Mumbai after a four-hour delay caused by guest MrBeast missing a private flight.

The promotional launch event for actor Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film Ramayana in Mumbai faced severe disruption as attending media representatives staged a walkout following a four-hour delay. Scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm, the press gathering saw prolonged uncertainty after the organising team failed to provide any schedule updates for over two hours.

It was later revealed that international content creator MrBeast was delayed due to a missed private flight. As journalists questioned the lack of communication, the publicity team reportedly told media personnel that they were free to leave if they did not wish to wait. Upon being informed of the media walkout, Kapoor reportedly remarked, "Aap logon ko jana hai toh chale jao (If you people want to leave, you can leave)."

The press session, originally planned to last an hour, ultimately concluded within ten minutes without any concrete announcements regarding the project. Neither the production team nor the event organisers issued a formal apology for the extended delay or the mismanagement.

During the brief on-stage session, actor Ranbir Kapoor symbolically lifted a prop Shiv Dhanush and offered prayers before interacting with international content creator MrBeast. Producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, actors Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey were also present at the event.

The upcoming epic, based on sage Valmiki's ancient text, features Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita respectively, while Kannada actor Yash makes his Hindi cinema debut as Ravana. The extended ensemble includes Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, and Arun Govil as King Dashrath.

Conceived as a two-part cinematic adaptation, Ramayana is joint-funded by Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations. The first instalment is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release, with the second part slated for 2027. An English-language edit, intended for international markets, is expected to run 30 minutes shorter than the primary domestic version. The film’s musical score marks a collaboration between Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer and composer AR Rahman.
