Anticipation continues to build around Supergirl (2026), one of the upcoming films in James Gunn's new DC Universe, as lead actor Milly Alcock has again addressed a question that has drawn attention among DC fans about Kara Zor-El's sexuality.

Speaking about her own reading of the character, Alcock mentioned that she was not entirely sure how Supergirl would be portrayed in the DC Universe. However, she highlighted that Kara might be attracted to both men and women, while stressing that she did not have a definite answer.

In an interview with Queerly Radio, Alcock said, "What makes this film beautiful is that it's not centred around a man, it's not centred around love at all. I don't really know. I don't know. I don't know. She probably goes both ways."

This is not the first time Alcock has spoken about Supergirl's sexuality. In an earlier interview with Narrativa Feminina, she was asked about the strong connection many LGBTQ fans feel with the character. During that conversation, the House of the Dragon star shared that she feels "honoured" by the audience's queer interpretations of her work, noting a "potential queer through line" across several of her characters. Reflecting on why this specific role resonates so deeply, she explained that the character breaks boundaries because "she doesn't live inside the binary of what we think a woman should be," adding that she always envisioned her as someone who would ultimately just "do what she'd want to do in that regard anyway."

Supergirl is co-produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran and distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. The film also features Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham and Jason Momoa in key roles.

Supergirl is set to arrive in theatres on June 26, 2026.
