Fans eager to see Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Ram and Yash's Ravana share the screen in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana will have to wait a little longer. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Ranbir revealed that the much-anticipated face-off between the two characters is yet to be filmed, even as the first instalment gears up for its Diwali release.
Ramayana: Part 1 is slated to release this Diwali, while the second instalment will arrive in theatres on Diwali 2027. With anticipation already building around Ranbir Kapoor and Yash's on-screen clash, the actor said the biggest moments between Lord Ram and Ravana appear later in the story, which is why the two have not yet shot together.
Speaking about sharing screen space with Yash, Ranbir said, "Lord Rama and Ravana will be appearing together at the end of the film, with maybe a meeting in the middle. But we haven't shot that. So, we haven't had the opportunity to work together. But, I have known Yash for some time now, and I have been a big fan of his work. I truly believe that we needed somebody with his aura, his stardom, his outlook to play this role."
Ranbir Kapoor on Yash's 'swag, aura'
Ranbir also praised Yash's portrayal of Ravana, saying the actor has moved away from the conventional image associated with the character.
"He has played it with so much swag, aura, and honesty that he has really made Ravana come alive. Over the years, we have had a very stereotypical depiction of Ravana, but not this one," he added.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey essays Lakshman. The ensemble cast also includes Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha and Indira Krishnan.
While the climactic confrontation between Lord Ram and Ravana is still awaiting filming, Ramayana: Part 1 is on track to release this Diwali, with the concluding chapter scheduled to hit theatres on Diwali 2027.
