Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has addressed fresh rumours about her alleged secret wedding after photos and videos of her wearing a mangalsutra, sindoor (vermillion) and green bangles went viral online. In a note shared on Instagram, she said she would not ‘marry secretly’.

The speculation began earlier this week after images of Ranaut in a traditional married look surfaced online, prompting fans to wonder if she had got married privately. The actor said the look was part of her character's make-up while she was filming.

Responding to the rumours on her Instagram story, Ranaut wrote, "I am filming in and around the city every single day, someone clicked this random picture with character makeup, and now I am getting so many phone calls, but what is the big deal about the married woman look? Actors play all kinds of roles, I won’t marry secretly, I promise (sic)."

Truth behind Kangana's viral look

Several reports and fan accounts have since suggested that the viral appearance is likely from the sets of Queen Forever, the sequel to Queen, which is currently being filmed in South Mumbai. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the sequel reportedly went on floors earlier this month, with portions being shot around Grant Road where a set resembling the lead character’s home has allegedly been constructed.

Queen 2 story

Unlike the original film, which followed Rani’s journey through Paris and Amsterdam, the sequel is expected to remain set within India. Reports suggest the story follows Rani in Mumbai after a major turning point in her life, tracing a fresh phase of self-discovery. Actors Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon, who appeared in the original film, are reportedly not returning for the sequel, with Bahl said to have cast a new ensemble featuring several theatre actors.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bahl revealed that work on the sequel had been underway for some time. “We have been working on Queen 2 for a while now and finally we have something concrete,” he said, without revealing further details about the film.

Kangana, 36, has neither announced a relationship nor spoken publicly about any engagement or wedding plans. In an earlier interview with ANI in 2023, she had said that she does wish to get married and have a family someday, but added that it would happen “at the right time.”

On the work front

Meanwhile, on the work front, Kangana will next be seen in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. The film is based on a tragic incident during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. It is slated to release in theatres on June 12.
