Ravi Teja’s Irumudi is still drawing audiences in theatres, but its journey is now set to continue on streaming. The film, which is currently in its fourth week at the box office, will premiere on Netflix on September 18. The OTT release will also make the film available in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, apart from Telugu.
Directed by Shiva Nirvana, Irumudi has already had a strong theatrical run since its release on August 11. The film is backed by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner.
The story revolves around the complicated but emotional bond between a father and his daughter. Ravi Teja plays Trinadh, an alcoholic who decides to take Ayyappa deeksha and stays away from alcohol for 40 days. His daughter Manemma, played by Baby Nakshatra, is closely attached to him and shares the little details of her everyday life, from things that happen at school to what goes on at home.
Priya Bhavani Shankar plays Kaveri, Trinadh’s wife. The film also features Sai Kumar as Guruswamy, while Swasika appears as a school teacher. Several young artistes are part of the supporting cast.
Shiva Nirvana has given the story an emotional treatment, with much of the film shot in real locations. Irumudi was extensively filmed in Sileru, a small town on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border. The setting adds to the grounded feel of the story rather than making the film look like a conventional big-screen production.
Ravi Teja’s performance as Trinadh has been one of the film’s talking points. Baby Nakshatra has also stood out as Manemma, while Priya Bhavani Shankar’s portrayal of Kaveri received appreciation.
The film’s theatrical numbers have further strengthened its success. Made on a reported budget of around Rs 45 crore, Irumudi has collected nearly Rs 208.18 crore gross in India in 24 days, according to industry estimates. It has thus joined the Rs 200 crore club and become the fourth film to do so in 2026, after Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, The Raja Saab and Peddi.
With the film still running in cinemas, its Netflix premiere will now take the story to audiences who may have missed it on the big screen. For Irumudi, the move comes after what has been a particularly successful theatrical run and another notable addition to Ravi Teja’s career.
