Singer Shilpa Rao’s performance at the 10th anniversary edition of the Bollywood Music Project in Mumbai ended on an abrupt note on October 24 after her set was cut short amidst scheduling delays. According to attendees, the singer’s microphone and electronic audio equipment were reportedly switched off mid-performance as the event ran behind schedule. As Rao attempted to address the crowd to thank them and bid farewell, fellow performer Kutle Khan began his set, interrupting her closing speech.

Following the incident, Shilpa shared a statement on her Instagram story to express her disappointment while thanking the Mumbai audience for their support. "Mumbai, a little piece of my heart broke tonight. It hurts deeply to have something so beautiful taken away from us like this," she wrote. "But even when the music stopped, you did not. The way you kept calling my name, the love in your voices... Our story tonight was left unfinished. I promise, I will come back (sic)."

The sudden interruption triggered strong backlash online, with festival-goers and fans slamming the organisers for mismanagement and disrespecting a senior artist. Outraged attendees highlighted that the event was running nearly 45 minutes late, resulting in shortened artist set times. Hashtags like "#JusticeForShilpaRao" quickly began trending across platforms.

Calling out the festival management, one attendee posted on X, "What happened with @shilparao11 at the #bollywoodmusicproject is just appalling she wasn't even given time to say thank you her music was cut mid way with electronics equipment all off (sic)."

Another fan commented, "Worst management... Shilpa was abruptly cut by Kutle Khan and the organisers shut the mic of shilpa mid-performance. Absolutely horrible production. I wish this never happens to any artist (sic)." Others echoed similar sentiments on Instagram, calling it "disrespectful behaviour" and criticising the event's time management.

The organisers have not yet issued a statement.
