Rana Daggubati recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing discourse about India's choices for Oscar submissions. The actor-producer, who is distributing All We Imagine as Light in India—a film that won the prestigious Grand Prix at Cannes—commented on its omission as India's official Oscar entry. Instead, Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, was selected.

Daggubati drew a parallel with the internationally acclaimed RRR, which wasn’t India’s official Oscar submission but still won an Academy Award. In an exclusive interview with India Today Digital, he said, "Do you know a film called RRR? Even that wasn’t sent to the Oscars as the official selection from India, but it somehow won and came back. I feel like the film will do well due to its merits. India is a huge country, and everyone has a certain job and ecosystem to figure out. One shouldn’t worry about what has happened; one should worry about what has not happened."

All We Imagine as Light, directed by Payal Kapadia, is a Malayalam-Hindi language film that explores the intertwined lives of two nurses, Prabha [Kani Kusruti] and Anu [Divya Prabha], living in Mumbai. The cast also includes Chhaya Kadam, who is also a part of Laapataa Ladies.

It premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Grand Prix. The film is set for its India-wide theatrical release on November 22, 2024. It is being distributed by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media. Earlier, it had a limited release in Kerala in September and opened the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in October.
