- Jailer 2 skips grand audio launch for a low-key fan event
- Three-hour Rajinikanth interview set for October 11 on Sun TV
- Interview timed four days before film's worldwide release
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is taking a different promotional route this time. Instead of the grand audio launch that has become almost synonymous with the superstar’s films, the makers have opted for a more low-key album launch, followed by a rare three-hour television interview with Rajinikanth in a primetime slot just days before the film hits theatres.
The special interview has been scheduled for October 11, and will air on Sun TV from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The three-hour primetime television appearance comes just four days before Jailer 2 releases worldwide on October 15 and is expected to be one of the film’s biggest promotional events.
No grand audio launch for Jailer 2
Rajinikanth’s audio launches have traditionally been much more than music events. His speeches, anecdotes and composer Anirudh's live performances have often generated headlines and become a major part of the promotional campaign for his films.
However, Jailer 2 has done away with that familiar format. Rather than staging a massive audio launch attended by the cast and crew, the makers unveiled the album through a relatively private event.
The music was launched at Jailer 2 RAVE, an event organised for selected fans, where composer Anirudh Ravichander and the singers performed songs from the film. The format gave fans a chance to experience the music live but did not have the scale or publicity of the traditional Rajinikanth audio launches.
The decision marks a noticeable shift in the promotional strategy for a Rajinikanth film, particularly after the enormous response to the superstar’s speeches at previous audio launches.
Rajinikanth rarely does long TV interviews
Rajinikanth has never been known for regularly appearing in lengthy television interviews to promote his films. His public appearances around releases have usually been limited to audio launches and occasional interactions with the media at airports.
One of his notable television interviews came during the promotions of 2.0, Shankar’s sequel to Enthiran. That appearance itself was significant because of how rarely Rajinikanth participated in an extended TV conversation.
The Jailer 2 interview therefore stands out not just because of its three-hour runtime, but also because of its timing. Coming just four days before the theatrical release, it gives Rajinikanth and the makers one final opportunity to build anticipation around the film.
Jailer 2 releases on October 15
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian following the success of the 2023 blockbuster Jailer.
The sequel features a large ensemble cast, including Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ramya Krishnan. Vijay Sethupathi is also set to make a cameo appearance.
Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, while Sun Pictures has backed the film.
