  • The Rajinikanth-starrer is on its way to recording a fabulous 1st weekend at the box office
  • The film has received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics

Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan performed decently on its second day at the box office in India. The film, which collected Rs 31.7 crore nett on its opening day, showed a slight drop on Friday and earned Rs 23.8 crore nett domestically, reported the trade website Sacnilk.

This was almost a 24 per cent drop from its first-day business, but it was expected, considering Friday was a working day. The collection is now likely to rise on Saturday with the Dussehra holiday. Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, began its business on a solid note and the first weekend is expected to be over Rs 100 crore nett in India.

After its two days, the investigative drama stands at Rs 55 crore nett, out of which Rs 49.1 crore nett came from the Tamil versions alone, followed by the Telugu versions contributing Rs 5.3 crore nett. It will be interesting to see how the collections rise on Saturday and Sunday with the festive days ahead, especially attracting the family audience to theatres.

Vettaiyan will be emerging as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year, creating new records in Tamil Nadu. However, it is not likely to challenge the mega success of Rajinikanth's Jailer, which was released last year. It is also competing with the performance of Thalapathy Vijay's GOAT.
