Akshaye Khanna buys Rs 33 crore Malabar Hill home after Dhurandhar's massive success

Actor Akshaye Khanna, who usually lives away from the city at a private property in Alibaug, has bought an apartment in Mumbai’s Malabar Hill area for Rs 33.26 crore. The purchase comes months after Dhurandhar emerged as a major box-office success and Khanna’s turn as Rehman Dakait made him one of the most talked-about actors on screen.

Khanna, who has largely stayed away from the celebrity spotlight, saw a fresh wave of popularity after Dhurandhar. His performance as Rehman Dakait, along with the character’s dialogue delivery and viral dance moments, sparked wide discussion online, and the attention continued after the film’s theatrical run as older videos and clips of the actor resurfaced.

According to property registration documents reviewed by Square Yards on the website of the Inspector General of Registration, Maharashtra, Khanna has invested Rs 33.26 crore in a new home at 30 Little Gibbs, Malabar Hill Road, Mumbai. The transaction was registered in September 2026.

As per the registration documents, the apartment has a carpet area of 2,341.39 square feet, or 217.52 square metres, and a balcony area of 175.45 square feet, or 16.29 square metres. The total area, including the balconies, is 2,516.84 square feet, or 233.82 square metres. The property also includes three parking units. The transaction drew a stamp duty payment of Rs 1.99 crore, while registration charges were Rs 30,000.

Malabar Hill has long been counted among Mumbai's premium residential neighbourhoods. Located in South Mumbai and overlooking the Arabian Sea, it is known for luxury homes, established infrastructure and proximity to major commercial and cultural hubs. The area is connected to other parts of South Mumbai through Nepean Sea Road, Walkeshwar Road and Pedder Road, while landmarks such as Hanging Gardens, Kamala Nehru Park, Banganga Tank and Walkeshwar Temple are nearby. Nariman Point, Fort and Colaba are also within easy reach.

For luxury homebuyers, Malabar Hill’s appeal also lies in the limited availability of large, premium residences in an established neighbourhood. Sea views, social infrastructure and access to Mumbai’s business districts have together made it one of the city’s most exclusive residential pockets.

The purchase follows a high-profile phase in Khanna's career. He had already built a reputation for taking varied and often unconventional roles, but Dhurandhar brought a new level of mainstream attention. As Rehman Dakait, he became one of the film’s main talking points despite being part of an ensemble led by Ranveer Singh, with his performance, screen presence and the character’s viral popularity turning Rehman into a breakout presence after the release.

Khanna’s career stretches back decades. The son of the late actor Vinod Khanna, he made his Hindi cinema debut in the 1990s and went on to establish himself across genres with films including Taal, Hulchul, Dil Chahta Hai, Humraaz, Gandhi, My Father, Race and Drishyam. Known for restrained performances in romantic dramas, thrillers, comedies and morally complex roles, Khanna has now added a Rs 33.26 crore Malabar Hill apartment to his portfolio at a time when Dhurandhar has introduced him to a new generation of viewers.
