The trailer of Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has been released, bringing Muthuvel Pandian back for another action-led story. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel points to bigger stakes, more chaos and the return of several familiar faces from the first film.

It opens with a tense interrogation over who has been causing massive destruction over the last two months. Characters say finding the person's true identity is nearly impossible. Rajinikanth is then reintroduced amid Anirudh’s high-energy beats as "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian, signalling that he is back in action and once again striking fear into his adversaries.

The antagonists say the threat is far bigger than someone merely staying hidden, raising questions about whether someone even more powerful is orchestrating the moves from behind the scenes. In Nelson Dilipkumar's deadpan action style, the trailer sets up a sniper standoff in which Rajinikanth calmly offers his hostage a choice between tea or coffee while delivering sharp warnings.

A new syndicate or adversary group called "Alps" is also mentioned, with a warning that they will not let anyone survive. Rajinikanth's character mocks the villains' tactics of spying, sending henchmen, intimidation and mind games, calling them old-fashioned. He contrasts that with his own method of gathering all his enemies in one place and blowing it up with a bomb.

The trailer closes with Nelson's blend of action and dry humour, including a moment in which someone is called out for getting passengers beaten up while casually cleaning a car. It also teases several special appearances and returning cameos. Shiva Rajkumar returns as Narasimha in a profile slow-motion shot, while Mohanlal is shown returning as underworld boss Mathew, walking in with vintage sunglasses, chains and his familiar swagger. Jackie Shroff also reprises his role as Kamdev and is seen sitting in a dark room holding a glass.

Vidya Balan appears in a saree in a sharp, mysterious avatar, sharing a smoking standoff and dialogue with Rajinikanth across a dining table. SJ Suryah is shown eating a meal while speaking about sniper set-ups, teasing a flamboyant antagonist or rival character.

Supporting cast members, including Yogi Babu, Jaffer Sadiq and VTV Ganesh are also seen in the trailer. Hrithik Roshan is also reportedly set to make an appearance in the film.

Behind the camera, Nelson has retained several key members from the first film. Anirudh returns as composer, R Nirmal is handling the editing and Vijay Kartik Kannan is the cinematographer. DRK Kiran is the art director, while Pallavi Singh and Muthul Hafeez return as costume designers. Stunt choreographer Chethan D'Souza joins the technical team as a new addition.

The makers have already locked the theatrical release for Jailer 2, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 15. The first film went on to become a major box-office success, earning Rs 348.55 crore nett in India and Rs 604.50 crore gross worldwide, according to Sacnilk.
