Malayalam actor Baiju Santhosh arrested for drunk-driving, hitting two-wheeler

Malayalam actor Baiju Santhosh was arrested on October 14 for hitting one person on a two-wheeler with his car. He was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Malayalam actor Baiju Santhosh was arrested by the Kerala police on Monday, October 14, for drunk-driving. The actor reportedly rammed his car into a two-wheeler, injuring one person at around 11:45 pm on Sunday night. He was driving on the Kowdiar-Vellayambalam road, under the Museum police station limits in Thiruvananthapuram.

The actor, who will be seen alongside Mohanlal in Prithviraj Sukumaran's L2: Empuraan, was booked under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) (Rash driving on a public way) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Driving under the influence of alcohol). As per a report published by the news agency PTI, Baiju was later released on station bail.

The report mentioned that his car was taken into custody, and he was given bail after the one injured refused to file a police complaint.

Another report published in The Hindu mentioned that Baiju was trying to avoid hitting a road construction barrier when he crashed into the two-wheeler. He also hit two signal posts before the front tyre of his car got punctured in the accident.

It is believed that Baiju's daughter was present with him inside the car. The doctor at General Hospital reportedly informed the police that he reeked of alcohol and initially refused to provide his blood sample for tests.

The actor has been active in the film industry for over 40 years. He first worked as a child artiste in the film Maniyan Pilla Adhava Maniyan Pilla (1981). He is popular for his performances in the films Puthan Panam (2017) and Mera Naam Shaji (2019), among others.
