Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has shared his review of Malayalam film Mollywood Times on social media on monday, showering praise on director Abhinav Sunder Nayak's latest directorial and calling it a film that perfectly captures the aspirations of modern cinephiles.
In his review, Kashyap wrote, "A post Internet/social media's cinephile filmmakers wet dream is this film. A lot of truth and a lot of idealism. The articulation of it all from the filmmaker that Abhinav sunder Nayak is only going to get sharper with time. This is how it all is but the wee bit of romanticism of it all is what we wish. Loved the film."
Directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, Mollywood Times follows Vineeth Madhavan, an aspiring filmmaker determined to become Malayalam cinema's greatest horror director while navigating the industry's harsh realities. The film has been described as a darkly comic drama that examines obsession, politics and the compromises behind filmmaking.
The film stars Naslen in the lead role and features Roshan Shanavas, Althaf Salim, Sangeeth Prathap, Sharafudheen, Prasanth Alexander, Gopika Ramesh and Vineeth Sreenivasan in key roles. It is produced by Ashiq Usman, with a screenplay by Ramu Sunil and music composed by Jakes Bejoy.
Reviewing the film, India Today wrote, "Director Abhinav Sunder Nayak's Mollywood Times follows Vineeth Madhavan from cinephile boyhood to the bruising realities of filmmaking. The film turns that journey into a reflection on obsession, compromise and the dream of reaching Friday."
Mollywood Times is Abhinav Sunder Nayak's second feature after the acclaimed Mukundan Unni Associates and forms the second instalment of his planned Success Trilogy. The film, led by Naslen, released last month and has received praise for its satirical take on the Malayalam film industry and the struggles of aspiring filmmakers.
