Every decade, a new story: Tina Ahuja on parents Govinda-Ssunita's divorce rumours

Tina Ahuja has said repeated rumours about parents Govinda and Ssunita Ahuja's marriage disturb her. Her remarks underline how years of public speculation have affected the family beyond the couple.

Growing up in a film family meant growing up with rumours, says actor Govinda and Ssunita Ahuja's daughter Tina Ahuja. Reacting to the recurring speculation surrounding the marriage of her parents, Tina admitted that the gossip is "disturbing" and affects the entire family, even though she has learnt to deal with it over the years.

Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Tina said she has been hearing stories about her parents' relationship since childhood, with the rumours simply changing platforms over time.

"I've been seeing this since my childhood. There were stories. Every decade, they have a new story. Earlier, it used to be magazines. Then it came to the internet, and now it's come to Instagram and the YouTube world. See, I'm human. Obviously, you get kind of troubled when there's no truth to it and when it just feels very exaggerated and dragged," she said.

Tina added that while such reports do affect her, she has learnt not to react to them.

"Clickbait is taken from somewhere, and another story is created. I'm not some saint who will never get affected. It is disturbing, yes. But then you have to learn to have a thicker skin in this industry, or any industry in life. When you know the truth and when you know the foundation, then it's better not to react or let it affect you or your health," she said.

When Ssunita hinted at Govinda's alleged affair

Her comments came months after rumours of trouble in Govinda and Ssunita's marriage resurfaced online. The speculation gained further attention after Ssunita, in an interview with MissMalini, hinted at Govinda having an affair while making an unusual remark about the name "Komal."

"I hate this name. It is problematic," she had said, asking the interviewer to change her name from Komal. The comment fuelled speculation that Govinda was allegedly involved with someone of the same name.

Govinda later dismissed the rumours while speaking to ANI.

"Not a single one of my heroines could say that I ever harassed them or spoke ill of anyone... The name she (his wife) is mentioning, Komal, I am grateful to her; I am 'saved' today because she hasn't said a single word and is staying quiet," he said.

More recently, Ssunita appeared on Laughter Chefs 3, where she seemingly took another swipe at her husband while referring to the incident in which Govinda allegedly accidentally shot himself in the leg with his licensed revolver.

"Kashmera, I want to tell you one thing, the guy who respects his wife is a hero. If there is a third party, he ends up shooting his own knee," she remarked.

Govinda and Ssunita have been married since 1987 and are parents to Tina and Yashvardhan. While Tina made her Bollywood debut with Second Hand Husband in 2015, Yashvardhan is gearing up for his acting debut.
