The South Indian Film Editors Association has announced the suspension of editor Pradeep E Raghav following allegations that he violated the body’s bylaws, which involves negligence towards films he works on, including Jana Nayagan. This conduct constitutes a violation of the association's statutory regulations in connection with online film leaks.

Jana Nayagan editor suspended

In an official statement, the association said the fact had been established before its Executive Committee that Raghav had repeatedly disregarded its rules by hiring non-members as assistants across multiple projects, including Jana Nayagan. The body termed this a clear violation of its statutory regulations.

Addressing the illegal online release of Jana Nayagan, the statement noted that while Raghav was not directly responsible for the leak, he had admitted that his negligence contributed to the incident.

Calling the situation serious, the association warned that such lapses could pose a larger threat to the functioning of the film industry if left unchecked. It emphasised its responsibility to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Following deliberations at an emergency Executive Committee meeting on April 17, in the presence of senior members and leading editors, the association decided to suspend Raghav to safeguard industry standards and uphold its institutional integrity.

During the suspension period, the association will withhold all forms of cooperation from Raghav and has urged other industry bodies to support its decision.

Jana Nayagan leak, arrests made

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing arrested three key accused in connection with the online leak of Jana Nayagan earlier this month, stepping up its crackdown on one of the most high-profile piracy cases in recent times.

The arrests were carried out on April 15 following an extensive technical probe into the leak, which surfaced just days before the film was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The case has already resulted in six arrests linked to the uploading and circulation of pirated content.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has issued a temporary order against the circulation of the unlawful, uncertified copy of Jana Nayagan on social media, online platforms, and cable television.
