Actor Yash is currently shooting Ravana's portions for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana in Mumbai. The team has recently filmed Sita’s grand swayamvar sequence on a large Mithila set in the city, featuring palace courtyards, royal balconies and hundreds of junior artistes, Mid-Day reported.

According to the report, Yash has been filming his portions for the two-part project since April, and the unit reached a key stage in the narrative this week. The focus is now on Sita's swayamvar, one of the major turning points in the epic, including the moment when Ravana tries and fails to lift the Shiva Dhanush.

Ramayana current schedule

As per sources cited by the daily from the ongoing schedule at Film City in Goregaon, the makers have mounted a sprawling set designed to reflect the Mithila kingdom. The set includes giant palace courtyards, royal balconies and traditional floor patterns decorated with flowers. Hundreds of junior artistes have also been brought in for the sequence.

The report said the sequence is being staged on a large scale for the screen, with the production focusing on the grandeur of the swayamvar and the tension around the bow-lifting moment. At the centre of this portion is Yash, as the team captures Ravana’s arrival at the gathering and his unsuccessful attempt to lift the Shiva dhanush.

Ravana's entry

A source close to the production was quoted as saying, "The current portion focusses on Ravana arriving at the swayamvar gathering and the dramatic tension surrounding the lifting of the bow. Yash has a commanding entry in the sequence. The crowd energy changes the moment Ravana enters the court. A lot of effort has gone into creating that aura visually."

The source’s account underlines the emphasis being placed on Ravana's presence in the sequence, as well as the visual scale of the court setting. The combination of the large Mithila set, the decorated palace space and the use of hundreds of junior artistes appears to be central to how the scene is being staged during the ongoing Mumbai schedule.

What happens next

Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita in the film, is expected to join the shoot later. For now, the ongoing work remains focused on Ravana's portions and the swayamvar sequence, which the team is filming as a major moment in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana.

Ramayana, also featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Ravie Dubey and Sunny Deol, among others, is slated to hit the screens as the big Diwali release later this year. It is produced by Namit Malhotra with music by AR Rahman.
