Kannada actor and producer Dileep Raj died on Wednesday (May 13) after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack. He was 47.

According to family members, Dileep was taken to a hospital in the early hours of the day after his health suddenly deteriorated, but doctors were unable to save him.

His death has left the Kannada television and film industry in shock, especially among fans who knew him for his performances in Milana, U-Turn and the television serial Hitler Kalyana.

Over the years, Dileep built a strong presence in Kannada entertainment through films, serials, theatre and dubbing work. He first caught the attention of audiences with his role alongside Puneeth Rajkumar in Milana, which became a major turning point in his career.

While many viewers recognised him from television, Dileep’s roots were deeply connected to theatre. He trained and performed with groups like Nataranga and Drishti before entering the television world. Actor Nanditha reportedly played an important role in helping him transition from theatre to television.

His early screen appearances included the telefilm Kambada Mane and the serial Janani, where he shared screen space with veteran actress Bharti Vishnuvardhan. He later went on to act in several popular Kannada serials, including Ardha Satya, Rangoli, Mangalya, Malebillu, Preetigaagi and Rathasapthami.

Apart from acting, Dileep also explored production through his banner DR Creations. He was equally respected for his dubbing work and had lent his voice to actor Chetan Kumar in Aa Dinagalu.

Despite working across multiple mediums, Dileep remained closely attached to theatre throughout his life. Known for portraying grounded and emotionally layered characters, he earned a reputation as one of Kannada television’s reliable and versatile performers.
