Singer hospitalised in Mumbai
Asha Bhosle, aged 92, was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, April 11. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, stated that she was hospitalised due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection, and requested privacy during her treatment.
Zanai Bhosle, in an X post, wrote, "My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively (sic)."
A career spanning decades
Bhosle's career spans decades and is marked by remarkable versatility, including soulful ghazals, cabaret numbers, and modern pop songs. She has collaborated with notable composers such as OP Nayyar, RD Burman, and AR Rahman, producing many iconic tracks cherished across generations.
Her contributions to Indian music have been recognised with prestigious honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. She has also won two National Film Awards for songs in the films Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat.
