Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga has registered a late pick-up at the box office, with the film showing better traction in theatres on weekdays than on its opening day. The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer appears to be benefiting from strong word-of-mouth, which has helped it gather pace after release.

The film collected Rs 1.90 crore nett in India on Tuesday, marking a clear jump from its first Monday total of Rs 1.38 crore nett. It also earned more on Day 5 than it did on its opening day, when it had collected Rs 1.38 crore nett, adding to the buzz around its theatrical run.

After five days, Main Vaapas Aaunga stands at Rs 8.30 crore nett in India and is looking at crossing Rs 10 crore before entering its second weekend.

The film, which also stars Vedang Raina and Sharvari in lead roles, was released alongside three other Hindi films: Kangana Ranaut's Bharat Bhaggya Vidhhaata, Manoj Bajpayee's Governor and Vikram Bhatt's Haunted 3D. While the horror film showed surprising potential from Day 1, Main Vaapas Aaunga is showing a visible jump due to word-of-mouth.

Its weekday performance has also added to its online presence, with social media buzz, influencers' reels, and people writing about and discussing the film helping its box office visibility during the week. The film is also said to be benefiting from Imtiaz Ali's loyal audience, including viewers who believe his cinema remains timeless and relevant across generations.

Main Vaapas Aaunga tells the story of a young man trying to fulfil his dying grandfather's last wish to reunite with someone in Sargodha, Pakistan. The film focusses on the pain of Partition and the longing that continues to stay with those who had to leave their homes overnight and rebuild their roots elsewhere.

An AR Rahman musical, Main Vaapas Aaunga was released in theatres on June 12.
