Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, who is currently embroiled in an unresolved dispute over Don 3 with Ranveer Singh, is reportedly shifting his attention to upcoming project about composer RD Burman. Ranveer's abrupt exit from the film allegedly caused significant losses to Farhan's production house, Excel Entertainment, and the matter is yet to be settled.
Amid this, Farhan could be set for another biographical drama after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Toofaan, as reported by Pinkvilla. He has been approached to play legendary music composer RD Burman, also known as Pancham Da, in a biopic being developed by Neeraj Pandey, the report claimed.
The producers are keen to cast actor-director Farhan in the lead role in the upcoming Neeraj Pandey directorial. The film is being envisioned as a tribute to the iconic composer, whose songs continue to connect with audiences across generations. The report said Neeraj has been developing the biopic for some time and that the script is moving ahead quickly.
Preparation underway to bring Pancham Da’s life to screen
While attributing a source, the report claimed that Farhan is in discussions to play RD Burman and is enthusiastic about bringing Pancham Da's life to the screen. The source added that if the project goes ahead as planned, Farhan will undergo extensive preparation for the role. The same source also said the makers have secured the rights to several RD Burman compositions that defined an era of Indian cinema, and that music sessions have already begun to ensure the best possible versions of the original songs are used in the film.
RD Burman's musical legacy
RD Burman was one of India's most influential music composers. He made his debut as an independent composer with the 1961 film Chhote Nawab and went on to revolutionise Hindi film music with his style. His best-known songs include Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Dum Maro Dum, Mehbooba Mehbooba and Tere Bina Zindagi Se. Burman died on January 4, 1994.
Farhan's last theatrical release was director Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai's 120 Bahadur based on the 1962 Battle of Rezang La.
Amid the reports on the musical biopic, an official announcement is still awaited. For now, reports indicate that Farhan may be preparing to headline a film based on the life and music of RD Burman even as the Don 3 dispute remains unresolved.
