Usha Mangeshkar says she feels lonely at home after sisters Lata and Asha's death

Usha Mangeshkar spoke about the shock of losing sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle at an event in Mumbai. She said the silence at home has deepened her grief and loneliness.

Singer Usha Mangeshkar has spoken about the emotional toll of losing her elder sisters, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, saying the silence at home now leaves her feeling lonely and sad. She said the loss of her two elder sisters over the past eight years has left a deep void in her daily life.

Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the 18th Newsmakers Awards 2026 in Mumbai, Usha described Asha Bhosle’s death as “a big shock” for the family as well as for her admirers. “My elder sister has passed away. I have lost my two elder sisters in the past eight years. It is a very big shock for me and also for the entire country as they lost a big singer,” she said.

Recalling her memories with the Sharara singer, Usha added, “I have a lot of memories. We have been together since childhood. Now I feel very lonely and sad at home.” She also shared that, despite her grief, she chose to attend the event because staying indoors in sorrow had become difficult, and she needed a change of environment to cope with the loss.

About Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar

Asha Bhosle died at the age of 92 on April 12. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 after suffering from cardiac and respiratory complications.

Regarded as one of the most successful playback singers in Hindi cinema, Asha Bhosle’s career spanned over eight decades. She recorded songs across multiple Indian languages for films and albums, earning widespread acclaim and several prestigious honours. Among her many accolades, she was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, the country’s second-highest civilian honour.

Lata Mangeshkar, meanwhile, died on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92, weeks after being admitted to the hospital following Covid-19 and pneumonia complications. She was honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 2001, along with three National Film Awards and several other prestigious recognitions during her career.
