Jailer 2 beats 2.0 to become Tamil cinema's biggest hit in India

The film's domestic record is particularly significant because it has surpassed the lifetime India gross of 2.0, also headlined by Rajinikanth. Shankar's 2018 science-fiction film earned approximately Rs 519 crore gross in India. Jailer 2 moved past that figure in 17 days, with its domestic gross now at Rs 533.75 crore.

The two films also had different theatrical release footprints. 2.0 benefited from a wide Hindi release, with Akshay Kumar playing a prominent role. Jailer 2, meanwhile, achieved the record despite its Hindi version not being screened by major multiplex chains PVR INOX and Cinepolis over a disagreement concerning the required theatrical-to-OTT window.
