A railway ticket clerk at Delhi's Anand Vihar Railway Station has been suspended after a video showing him abusing a passenger during an argument over Rs 30 in loose change went viral on social media.

The incident drew widespread criticism online, prompting a swift response from Railway Seva.

The video, shared on X, shows a railway staff member stationed at the ticket counter engaged in a heated argument with a passenger.

According to the post, the dispute began after the passenger purchased a ticket and asked for Rs 30 in change, which the clerk allegedly refused to return.

As the passenger started recording the exchange, the situation escalated. The clerk can be heard using abusive language and continuing the argument while defending his stance. The clip quickly spread across social media, with many users calling for disciplinary action against the employee.

Sharing the video, the user urged authorities to take strict action. The caption read, “Share this video until this rude employee gets suspended.”

Tagging Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Railway Seva, the user further wrote, “Are you watching, Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw? Now @RailwaySeva employees first scam people, and when asked questions, they'll shove a stick.”

The post also criticised the station administration, stating, “The officials at Anand Vihar railway station should feel ashamed for keeping such an employee who is tarnishing the image of the government.”

The complaint was soon acknowledged by Railway Seva, which confirmed that action had been taken against the employee.

In its response on X, Railway Seva wrote: “Based on the seriousness of the matter and primarily the recorded conversation, the concerned employee has been suspended with immediate effect. Further action will be taken as per the existing rules.”

The prompt action by the Railways was welcomed by several users, many of whom praised the authorities for responding quickly to the complaint. Others said the incident highlighted the importance of accountability and respectful behaviour by public-facing officials.

The viral clip has since reignited conversations around customer service at public institutions and the role social media continues to play in bringing such incidents to the attention of authorities.
