What is Stuart Fails to Save the Universe about?

The new series centres on Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner played by Kevin Sussman in the original sitcom. According to the official logline, Stuart accidentally triggers a multiverse Armageddon after breaking a device created by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter.

As reality begins to collapse, Stuart teams up with his girlfriend Denise, geologist Bert and physicist Barry Kripke in an attempt to restore order. The show will also feature alternate-universe versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory. The logline teases that, unsurprisingly, “things do not go well”.

Who is returning for the spin-off?

Kevin Sussman reprises his role as Stuart, alongside Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke. The series comes from co-creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Zak Penn.

The show is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Kyle Newacheck directed the pilot episode and also serves as executive producer.

How does the show fit into The Big Bang universe?

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe marks the fourth series in The Big Bang franchise. The original sitcom ran for 12 seasons on CBS, while prequel series Young Sheldon concluded in 2024 after seven seasons.

Its follow-up series, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, premiered later that year. With its multiverse storyline and returning fan-favourite characters, the new spin-off expands the franchise into more science fiction-driven territory.
