- Director Suparn S Varma shared the story behind the name
For Haq director Suparn S Varma, actor Yami Gautam’s cameo in Dhurandhar 2 was more than just a blink-and-miss appearance. Amid the buzz around the twists in the Ranveer Singh film, one moment that caught viewers’ attention was Yami’s brief role as a nurse.
What truly stood out, however, was her character’s name, Shazia Bano, the character she played in Haq.
The crossover moment
Sharing how it came about, director Suparn revealed how Aditya had seen the cut of Haq, and after watching it, he told him there was a surprise he had just shot. "I asked him what it was, and he said it’s in the last scene of Dhurandhar. I asked again, “What is it?” and he said, “Yami’s character.” When I questioned again, he just said, 'Guess what, it’s a nameplate'. I was so confused and was throwing weird theories. We both were laughing our heads off when he finally told me, 'She’s called Shazia Bano'.”
He further added, "That’s when I felt we really have a mutual admiration, and we genuinely love each other’s work. And yes, it was something very sweet and admirable that he did, I guess, for Yami’s dedication and passion while playing Shazia Bano in Haq."
Dhurandhar 2 success
The sequel follows the massive success of Dhurandhar, and has already crossed Rs 1000 crore worldwide, cementing its place as a major box office blockbuster and building a loyal audience for the franchise. Apart from Ranveer, the film also stars Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi.
More about Haq
On the other hand, Haq also brought immense recognition to Yami, who played the real-life-inspired character of a woman who fought against Triple Talaq and the lack of women's rights. The film also featured Emraan Hashmi in a pivotal role.
