Christopher Nolan is set to attend the Mumbai premiere of his new film, The Odyssey, in July as part of the film’s global event tour. Universal Pictures International has named Mumbai an official stop on the tour alongside London, Paris and New York, making this the first Christopher Nolan film to premiere in India and his first ever premiere in the country.
Nolan will be joined at the Mumbai event by actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland, as well as producer Emma Thomas. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, and its India premiere will be held at PVR Icon IMAX: Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai.
According to the announcement, The Odyssey was shot across the world using new IMAX film technology and is the first feature film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Advance tickets for the film in IMAX are already on sale in cinemas across India.
The film stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. It is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy.
Advance ticket sales for IMAX screenings of The Odyssey began across India on June 8. The launch immediately drew attention to the high ticket rates, with premium seats priced as high as Rs 3,000 in Mumbai and Pune. Some late-night shows in Mumbai were listed at up to Rs 3,300, placing them among the most expensive movie tickets currently available in the country.
Despite the steep prices, audience interest remained strong. Several screenings witnessed rapid bookings, with tickets selling out within minutes.
Written for the screen and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey brings Homer’s saga of Odysseus’s decade-long voyage home after the fall of Troy to IMAX screens worldwide. With Mumbai included in the global premiere tour and Nolan, Damon, Holland and Thomas set to attend, the film’s India launch will take place ahead of its July 17 release.
