Robert Pattinson compares his character from The Odyssey to Twilight's Jacob Black

Actor Robert Pattinson said his role as Antinous in director Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is a bit like Jacob Black in Twilight. The comparison links his latest film to the love triangle that defined one of his best-known franchises.

Actor Robert Pattinson has compared his role in director Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey to Jacob Black from the Twilight films, nearly 15 years after he last played Edward Cullen. Speaking about his character Antinous, Pattinson highlighted that the audiences may end up backing him in the same way some viewers supported Taylor Lautner’s character in the vampire franchise.

In an interview with MTV UK, Pattinson said, "I think they will be rooting for him. I keep comparing it — it’s kind of like Jacob in Twilight."

"What The Odyssey is about — Penelope just can’t make her mind up between the two guys and I’m just trying to like help her make a decision. It is like, 'It is fine. He is dead, get over it'," he added.

The Odyssey, an adaptation of one of the first stories in human history, follows Odysseus, played by actor Matt Damon, through the trials and mythical encounters he faces on his decade-long journey home after the Trojan War. He is trying to return to his wife Penelope, portrayed by actor Anne Hathaway, and his son Telemachus, essayed by actor Tom Holland.

Pattinson plays Antinous, a suitor seeking Penelope’s hand in marriage and Odysseus’ throne in Ithaca. The film also stars Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez and Mia Goth.

In 2008, Pattinson had his breakout role as Edward Cullen in Twilight (2008), based on Stephenie Meyer’s books. In The Twilight Saga, Edward competed with werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, for Bella Swan’s affection. Kristen Stewart played Bella in the franchise, which included New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (2011) and Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (2012).

The Odyssey, based on Homer's epic poem, is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
