Bollywood actor Manisha Koirala recently made her big comeback to acting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. Recently, the global giant announced the second season of the show. Koirala, while speaking to India Today Digital, shared an update on it and also spoke about how people had warned her against venturing into OTT.
On the sidelines of her session at the International Film Festival of India, Manisha spoke to India Today Digital and gave an update about Heeramandi season 2. “The shoot will begin next year. We are all waiting to be back,” she said.
When asked if the success of the web series translated to more work for her, the actor smiled to say, “No, not yet. There are some scripts, and I can only share something if that gets through.”
Manisha Koirala was speaking at the ’Big Screen to Streaming’ session, where she was joined by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. She also shared how people warned her against moving to the OTT platform, something she had experienced even when she entered films.
“It always happens that people first doubt and warn and later applaud. I experienced the same 30 years ago when I entered films. People believed that the industry was filled with bad people, and because yellow journalism was rampant, only negative news would be there. Hence, no one wanted a good family’s daughter to be there,” she said.
The Khamoshi actor added that, however, the same people came back to her after her films Saudagar and others became successful. “The same people were applauding, saying how proud they were. But I think that happens with anything new or not known, because of all the pre-conceived and pre-judgments,” she added.
On a concluding note, Manisha Koirala said that she, however, never had a doubt about Heeramandi or the web space. She said, “I never had a doubt, not because I adore Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but I also believed that streaming is the game-changer. It will be the best platform and encourages a lot of new filmmakers, writers, and ideas. Hence, I really believed in the project and even the space.”
Heeramandi also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Sehgal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, Taha Shah, and Aditi Rao Hydari. Set against the backdrop of the Indian independence movement in the 1940s, the Netflix show chronicles the lives of women in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore.
