Pregnancy was a surprise: Samantha says she and Raj were okay not having kids

Samantha revealed her pregnancy with Raj Nidimoru was a surprise, saying they had made peace with not having children. The actor also shared how she discovered she was pregnant while shooting for Thassadiya.

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has said her pregnancy came as a surprise, adding that she and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru had reached a point where they were okay with not having children. The couple, who made their relationship official in December last year, announced in June this year that they were expecting their first baby.

In a recent interview, the 39-year-old spoke about finding out she was pregnant while shooting for the song Thassadiya and said she is now excited about the change that motherhood will bring. Her comments come as she continues to share parts of her pregnancy journey with fans on social media

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Samantha said that she and Raj had made peace with either outcome before she got pregnant. “I had reached a place where I was okay. Like, both Raj and I were okay with, maybe we can’t have kids. Maybe we will. I was okay with either. I was fine, and so was he. So, this is a surprise,” she said, laughing.

The actor also spoke about how she felt after learning about the pregnancy. “The first day I was shooting for (the song) Thassadiya, I found out. I had just found out, and I had to go and do the steps. I was having a little bit of sickness at that time. I guess everything just aligned. And now, I am truly excited. Everyone tells me that having a child changes your entire life. I think I am ready for that change,” said the actor.

Samantha’s film Maa Inti Bangaaram was released in theatres in June, and she revealed her pregnancy to the world a day later. Since announcing it during the film’s promotions, she has been sharing videos and photos from her pregnancy journey, including baby-bump pictures and candid updates about the changes that come with it.

In one recent social media post, fans filled the comments with baby-name suggestions. One user suggested “Samaira” for a girl and “Samaraj” for a boy, combining Samantha and Raj’s names. Samantha replied, “SAMRAJ. A tad full of ourselves, don’t you think?”, along with a laughing emoji. She also shared a mirror selfie on her Instagram Story and joked, “I’d like to keep the skin and hair, please.”

During an Ask Me Anything session on Instagram, she also opened up about shopping for the baby and changes in her body. Before inviting questions from fellow mothers-to-be and new mothers, she wrote, “Bought all the baby things. Now intimidated by all the baby things. So far, the laptop stand.”

When a fan spoke about weight gain during pregnancy, Samantha replied, “I feel ya. 11 kg already.” Another woman advised her to get as much sleep as possible, writing, “Your life is going to change and there is no turning back.”

Samantha and Raj were rumoured to have been dating when they shot for Citadel: Honey Bunny, which was released in 2024. While her divorce from Naga Chaitanya became public in 2021, it is unknown when Raj divorced Shhyamali De. Pictures and videos Samantha posted of Raj on social media added to the speculation before the couple made things official with a yogic ceremony at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore in December 2025.
