Lahore: Reported cases of rape and gang rape in Lahore have recorded a notable increase this year, with police data showing a rise in incidents during the first eight months compared with the same period in 2025. The figures point to a worrying trend in the provincial capital, as reported by Samaa TV.
According to Samaa TV, Lahore registered 498 rape cases between January and August this year, compared with 413 cases during the corresponding period last year. This represents an increase of around 20 per cent.
Reported gang rape cases also witnessed a substantial rise. Thirty-six gang rape cases were registered during the first eight months of the current year, compared with 26 cases in the same period of 2025, marking an increase of about 38 per cent.
The increase was recorded across several police divisions of Lahore. The City Division registered 36 rape cases during the first eight months of last year, while the figure climbed to 56 this year. In Iqbal Town, reported cases jumped from 46 to 80. However, the Model Town Division recorded no change in the number of reported rape cases. Police data showed 98 cases in both periods.
Gang rape cases similarly increased in several divisions. Cantt Division reported nine cases this year compared with five last year, while Model Town witnessed cases double from five to 10. Civil Lines recorded three cases compared with two last year, while Iqbal Town saw an increase from four to six, as highlighted by Samaa TV.
The City Division also reported two cases this year against one during the corresponding period of 2025. The figures reflect cases registered with police and therefore represent reported incidents rather than necessarily the total number of sexual assaults occurring in the city, as reported by Samaa TV.
