G Udayagiri: A fresh landslide has occurred at Kalinga Ghat in Odisha following incessant rainfall triggered by the recent cyclonic storm. Huge rocks and trees have fallen onto the road, raising fresh concerns over safety in the region.

The landslide occurred near the Banadurga Temple, close to an under-construction guard wall that had previously collapsed following heavy rainfall.

Although rainfall has subsided in the G Udayagiri area, the threat of further landslides continues to loom large.

G Udayagiri Tahasildar Samudra Mishra and Additional Tahasildar Debashish Jena visited the affected site, assessed the situation and reviewed the damage caused by the landslide.

Notably, the Kalinga Ghat road has remained closed since September 23 due to landslide-related safety concerns.

Meanwhile, incessant rainfall triggered by the cyclonic storm has severely affected several parts of Gajapati district, with landslides reported from the Kainpur and Gangabada areas.

Strong currents of rainwater flowing down the Mahendragiri hills have washed away portions of the Kainpur-Burukhata road, disrupting connectivity in the region.

With rainfall continuing in parts of Gajapati district, the simultaneous threats of flooding and landslides have heightened concerns among residents and the local administration.

The situation remains particularly worrying in vulnerable hilly areas, where saturated soil and unstable slopes pose the risk of further landslides.
