Odisha Chief Minister inaugurates Redeveloped, State-of-the-Art ‘Kalinga Studio’

Bhubaneswar: Aiming to revive the glorious past of Odia cinema while catering to future needs, the redeveloped and state-of-the-art ‘Kalinga Studio’ in the capital city of Bhubaneswar was grandly inaugurated today. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the event as the chief guest and dedicated this world-class, renovated studio to the public.

Additionally, a dedicated archive and museum, established at Kalinga Studio to preserve cinematic heritage, was also inaugurated.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that Odia filmmakers would no longer need to look to other states for technical work. Numerous world-class facilities have been made available here, and the Chief Minister added that many more state-of-the-art amenities would be introduced in the future.

The new Kalinga Studio has been developed into a self-contained ecosystem, keeping in mind the changing times and the requirements of the digital era. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including indoor shooting floors, a snow house, a chroma floor, a tech zone, and advanced infrastructure for sound recording, dubbing, editing, and post-production.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister stated that a dedicated archive and museum have been established to preserve cinematic heritage, where vintage films, posters, photographs, and historical documents will be conserved.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister recalled the legacy of Kalinga Studio and the history of Odia cinema. He noted that during the 1950s and 1960s, timeless films such as ‘Maa’, ‘Amada Bata’, and ‘Matira Manisha’ forged a deep bond between Odia literature and cinema.

Although Kalinga Studio was established in 1980 for film production in Odisha, its modernization became essential over time due to natural calamities and rapid technological advancements.

Expressing great confidence in the state’s talented youth, the Chief Minister noted that today’s young generation is excelling in areas such as acting, direction, cinematography, animation, sound design, and storytelling for digital platforms. Kalinga Studio will serve as a key medium for realizing their dreams.

He urged them to create films rooted in original stories, folklore, history, and cultural heritage.

On the occasion of this inauguration, the Minister for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education, Sampad Chandra Swain, shared significant views regarding the facility’s transformation and future roadmap.

He stated that the redeveloped Kalinga Studio has been transformed into a state-of-the-art film studio complex. It offers facilities to cater to all requirements, ranging from film production to post-production.

Minister Swain remarked that the film industry is not merely a sector for entertainment but a vast economic ecosystem.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the new official portal of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC).
