Teen released without charge after arrest over fatal assault on Qayyum Balogun

· BreakingNews

A male teenager, who was arrested in relation to the investigation of the fatal assault on Qayyum Balogun, has been released without charge.

Garda Will McCarthy said 21-year-old Qayyum Balogun was surrounded and violently attacked by six men on Clarendon Street in the early hours of Monday, June 1st.

It comes as Joshua Brodericks, of Glenn Dara, Rahoon in Galway, faces two counts of violent disorder arising from incidents in the early hours of Monday morning.

The court heard the events began after a large group, including Joshua Brodericks, was asked to leave a late-night event at Bewley’s café on Grafton Street.

After leaving the venue, Brodericks is alleged to have led a “14-man pack” in a relentless chase of 21-year-old Qayyum Balogun and his friends through Dublin city centre.

Brodericks is not accused of any offence directly relating to his death, but Garda McCarthy claimed his actions were the “catastrophic catalyst” for his murder

He is accused of later assaulting a man and a woman on nearby Grafton Street, and he also faces two counts of violent disorder. The judge granted him bail subject to several strict conditions.
