In a clip from the episode, Tia is in the car with her assistant Ciara when she receives a troubling call about the results of her recent mammogram. The woman from the doctor’s office informs Mowry that her “results have come back abnormal.” The shocked actress is then told that she needs a biopsy “as soon as possible” so doctors can gain “further insight.”

As the “Sister, Sister” star processes the news with a stunned “Oh my God,” Ciara jumps in to calm her down and offer support.

“I don’t want you to worry too much,” Ciara says. “Let’s just get the appointment on the books and see.”

While mammograms are a routine part of women’s health care, the prospect of being called back in for more tests, especially a biopsy is every woman’s worst fear.

“I feel like right when I’m working on my mental health because of what I’m going through, now this. Another situation,” Mowry says amidst tears. “This is my health.”

Tia reveals that there’s a history of cancer in her family. She lost her grandmother five years ago and her aunt one year ago. This is truly a scary situation for any woman, so it’s brave that she’s dealing with it in a way that could inspire other women to be more proactive about regularly getting mammograms. Though she’s been putting work into her mental health following her divorce from actor Cory Hardrict, this is shocking news to deal with while others are watching and commenting on your daily life.

“I have been doing so much to take care of my mental health,” Mowry said in a confessional interview. “I’ve been meditating, I’ve been journaling, but I’m scared. I don’t know what to expect.”

Ciara once again explains to Mowry that they need to take things one step at a time, saying, “Let’s not jump the gun. They didn’t say that you have cancer. Let’s not self diagnose.”

In her own confessional Ciara emphasizes her role as Tia’s emotional support system, and notes that she has a great medical team.

“When we’re in a situation like this, I’m always gonna be that sounding board. Get it out. It’s better out than in,” Ciara says. “She has an amazing team of doctors, a very well-rounded team of doctors and there’s no need to worry.”
