The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer
by Rob Beschizza · Boing BoingThe Devil Wears Prada 2, complete with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, hits theaters on May 1. Here's the trailer! If this is an extremely dubious sequel, it sells itself well. Hathaway's Andy is returning to Vog—sorry, Runway, as its new features editor, but Streep's Miranda Priestly has either forgotten who she is or is pretending to have forgotten who she is.
Almost 20 years after making their iconic turn as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation. The film reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces an all-new runway of characters including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as "Lily" and "Irv" from the first film. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna. The film debuts exclusively in theaters May 1.
The original was a roman à clef about Anna Wintour, the longtime editor of Vogue magazine famed for her airs and furies. It's hard to imagine that being the point now (Wintour, since knighted, was promoted into the stratosphere during the pandemic) but that may let the character breathe more. Here's a fantastic scene from the 2006 original, where Priestly explains how rich and important people like her decide what you wear years before you "choose" it.
