Crackers! 12 eye injuries in 1 day

The number of firecracker injuries continues to rise in the city, with most of the injured being bystanders. At Minto Hospital, multiple cases have been reported, some involving serious injuries. Similarly, Sankara Eye Hospital has recorded 12 cases of firecracker-related eye injuries on Friday—eight of which are children and four are adults. Among the pediatric cases, two have sustained serious injuries with corneal tears. One case involves a 5-year-old who has already undergone surgery, while the other is a 10-year-old awaiting a surgical procedure.

Experts said it is essential to keep children at a safe distance from firecrackers and never allow them to handle crackers alone. In the event of burns, rinse the affected area with cold water and seek medical help immediately. “Always be careful and light crackers in open areas, and avoid eating sweets or food from unknown sources to prevent stomach issues,” said an expert.
