BBMP Removes Dangerous Solar Light Pole at KR Circle Underpass

by · Bangalore Mirror

Pedestrians express their gratitude to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) employees for removing a dangerously hanging solar light pole at the KR Circle underpass. The rusted pole, which had been installed many years ago, posed a risk to unsuspecting pedestrians.

Bangalore Mirror published a story on October 28, titled, “Poles at KR Circle are precariously poised” narrating how the BBMP authorities have forgotten the existence of rusted solar light poles while installing LED lights as part of the KR Circle beautification project. Pedestrians have expressed concern over the negligence of the BBMP authorities to replace the rusted solar light poles with new ones. As of now, the BBMP Street Lights Department has been using the old solar light poles for installing LED lights to ensure lighting for the underpass as well as for the footpath at night. The BBMP employees have removed the precariously hanging solar light pole and kept it on the footpath. This is the second solar light pole removed at the underpass but the BBMP authorities have not taken measures to install new light poles with LED bulbs to ensure lighting at the underpass.

“I want to thank the BBMP authorities for removing the precariously hanging solar light pole. By removing it, the BBMP employees avoided a mishap. I urge the BBMP Street Lights Department to install new poles with LED bulbs without any delay,’’ said Nagendra Prasad, a pedestrian. Demanding the BBMP authorities to remove all the old solar light poles at the KR Circle underpass as they have become an eyesore, Sebastian J, a pedestrian, said the solar light poles were installed many years ago and need to be replaced with decorative light poles. “The BBMP spent a lot of money on the development of KR Circle a few years ago. The authorities should have removed the old solar light poles and installed decorative street light poles with LED bulbs instead of waiting for these old and rusted solar light poles to become dangerous for pedestrians,’’ said Sebastian.

Emphasising the need for having a sufficient number of street lights at the KR Circle underpass, Keshava Murthy N, a pedestrian, said the installation of new LED lights will serve a double purpose, ensuring light at the underpass as well as for the footpath between the underpass and the Bescom office compound. “I appeal to the authorities to remove all the old solar light poles and install decorative light poles with LED bulbs for the benefit of pedestrians and motorists,’’ he said.
