Hyundai Bayon Bookings Open – 4.2m SUV, New Platform Targets 5 Star Bharat NCAP

Hyundai confirms a generative AI voice assistant and Global K Enhanced Platform for the India-spec Bayon, arriving this festive season

Hyundai Motor India has opened bookings for the upcoming Bayon at Rs 11,000. Customers can reserve the SUV through Hyundai’s official website or authorised dealerships across India. The announcement follows recent teasers revealing its H-Edge lighting signature, alloy wheels and exterior details.

The release confirms that Bayon measures 4.2 metres in length and will offer a petrol engine with manual and IVT automatic transmission options. Hyundai is positioning it as an “Intelligent Utility Vehicle”, with an in-built generative AI voice assistant among its key highlights.

Hyundai Bayon – Size And Design Confirmed

At 4.2 metres long, Bayon is expected to sit between Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s Indian portfolio. The company highlights cabin space and occupant comfort, although width, height, wheelbase and boot capacity remain undisclosed.

Exterior details include a sculpted bonnet, signature H-Edge LED DRLs, geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-type roof rails. These build on the earlier teasers, which showed a distinctive horizontal-and-vertical lighting pattern and geometric alloys wearing 215/55 R17 tyres.

Generative AI Voice Assistant

Hyundai has confirmed an in-built generative AI voice assistant, designed to enable more natural interactions between the driver and vehicle. Supported languages, commands and connectivity requirements are yet to be detailed.

Earlier sketches and test vehicles have previewed a horizontal dashboard, dual integrated screens and Hyundai’s four-dot steering wheel. A sunroof and 360-degree camera setup have also been spotted during testing. In the teaser shared, we can also see a panoramic sunroof. The complete feature list and variant-wise availability remain awaited.

Petrol Engine, Manual And IVT Gearboxes

Bayon will offer a petrol powertrain with manual and Intelligent Variable Transmission, or IVT, options. It is likely to be the same 1.5 liter NA petrol engine which powers the Creta, where it is rated to deliver 115 PS and 144 Nm torque.

Hyundai says the reason behind petrol setup is their focus on offering refinement, responsiveness and fuel efficiency for everyday driving. It was also rumoured to get a CNG option with underbody tank, but that has not been announced yet.

The SUV is built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, which Hyundai says is engineered for five-star Indian safety standards (Bharat NCAP). This is a development claim rather than an announced crash-test rating. Detailed safety equipment is also yet to be revealed.

India Launch This Festive Season

Hyundai has confirmed a festive-season debut, but the exact India launch date remains under wraps. Delivery timelines will be announced at launch. Meanwhile, Hyundai Europe has scheduled the Euro-Spec Bayon’s global debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12.

The Indian reveal could take place around the same period, although a simultaneous unveiling has not been confirmed. Interestingly, Hyundai has carried out simultaneous global debuts in the past. Back in 2019, Venue was unveiled simultaneously in South Korea, USA and India.
