Tata has released the first teaser of its upcoming Aeris, confirming a new name for what is expected to be the updated Tigor. The announcement follows our earlier report on the Tata Aeris trademark filing and reports suggesting that the compact sedan would adopt a fresh identity.

Tata Aeris Teaser Reveals First Design Details

The teaser depicts a car breaking out of a mould, accompanied by messaging centred on standing out. This approach puts the focus on a fresh identity, with sections of the outer covering falling away to reveal purple bodywork underneath.

At the front, the exposed section shows an angular LED headlamp assembly with a slim upper LED strip. Below it is a black lower bumper intake with horizontal detailing and a LED fog lamp towards the outer edge. These elements offer an early look at the Aeris’ front-end styling, although the complete grille and bumper design remain concealed.

Another frame reveals part of the rear quarter, including the fuel-filler flap, a section of the tail lamp and the boot-side bodywork. Much of the car remains covered in the teaser, leaving the full extent of its design changes unclear. Interior details have not been shown in the supplied teaser images.

Interestingly, Tigor was absent from the TATA.CARS campaign announcing Tata’s new passenger vehicle identity last month. The TVC featured Tiago, Altroz, Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Sierra, Harrier and Safari, but left out the compact sedan. With Aeris now set to launch on September 25, that omission appears deliberate, suggesting Tata was saving the updated sedan for a separate introduction under its new name.

Can A New Name Give Tata’s Sedan A Fresh Start?

The Aeris arrives with an opportunity to renew interest in Tata’s compact sedan offering. Tigor’s monthly sales have hovered around 1,000 units, trailing rivals such as Honda Amaze at approximately 4,000 units, Hyundai Aura at around 6,000 units and Maruti Dzire at roughly 20,000 units. These approximate monthly volumes highlight the gap Tata has to close.

Sedan Sales Aug 2026 – YoY

A new name could help attract attention and give the updated car a distinct identity. However, sustained sales growth will depend on the overall package, including styling, cabin improvements, features, powertrain choices and pricing. The September 25 launch should offer a clearer picture of how Tata intends to position Aeris against its established rivals.
