2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Official Teaser Out – Launch 22nd Sep
by Sagar Patel · RushLaneMahindra has released the first teasers for its updated 3-door Thar, following recent sightings of production-ready test mules
Mahindra has begun teasing the upcoming Thar 3-door update on social media, ahead of launch on 22nd Sep. The first images focus on the SUV’s grille and off-road character, accompanied by the message “An icon, now more iconic.”
First Teasers Show Grille And Off-Road Action
The latest teaser provides a close-up of a mud-covered front grille, showing vertical openings with mesh inserts and Mahindra lettering above them. The accompanying social media caption reads, “Coming soon to a rear-view mirror near you.”
However, these tightly cropped photographs stop short of revealing the complete exterior. Details of the headlights, bumper and cabin will have to wait for subsequent teasers, leaks or the official unveiling.
Thar Roxx-Inspired Styling Expected
Previous test mule sightings have pointed towards a more extensive update than the subtle feature additions introduced in 2025. The biggest changes are expected at the front, where spy shots have indicated a revised grille and circular projector LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs, similar to Thar Roxx.
A revised front bumper and updated fog lamps could also be part of the package. Earlier sightings have shown a different wheel design. The familiar 3-door proportions are expected to continue, along with the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and split rear opening. Changes at the rear appear less substantial, with possible revisions to the tail lamps and bumper.
More Cabin Features Likely
The facelift is also expected to introduce additional cabin equipment. Potential upgrades discussed in our earlier report include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror.
A 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats are among the other possibilities. However, Mahindra has not revealed the interior in these teasers or confirmed these features. Suggestions of Level-2 ADAS also remain speculative at this stage. The extent of the cabin changes will be important in determining how closely the updated 3-door Thar follows Thar Roxx in terms of comfort and convenience.
Petrol And Diesel Engines Expected To Continue
The updated Thar is expected to retain the existing engine options comprising a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The smaller diesel is likely to continue with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, while the larger engines are expected to retain manual and automatic transmission choices with four-wheel-drive configurations.
Current Thar 3 door is priced in the range of Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18 lakh ex-sh. New facelifted Thar is expected to get a minor price hike. With launch nearing, sales of Thar 3 door are expected to pick-up in coming weeks.
