TCM Sets Full Evening of Programming to Honor Rob Reiner, Including Network Premiere of ‘The Princess Bride’
The network will celebrate the beloved late filmmaker's work with a special four-film tribute on January 28.
by Kate Erbland · IndieWireTurner Classic Movies (TCM) is set to honor the life and career of beloved late filmmaker Rob Reiner with a newly-announced programming tribute next month. On January 28, 2026, the network will host a full evening of Reiner’s work, including four of his most popular films, headlined by a special premiere presentation of “The Princess Bride,” which has not been previously available on the network.
Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, passed away on December 14 and, in the days since, the outpouring of love for the pair and their work has been profound.
Per a press release about the event, “‘The Princess Bride’ endures as one of Reiner’s most beloved achievements — celebrated for its wit, emotional sincerity, and timeless storytelling that continues to resonate with audiences across generations. A longtime friend of TCM and a passionate advocate of film preservation, Reiner was one of the most accomplished and versatile filmmakers of his generation.”
Added TCM host Ben Mankiewicz in his own statement, “With ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ Rob began an extraordinary 11-year run that rivals the finest directors in Hollywood history: He made ‘The Sure Thing,’ ‘Stand by Me,’ ‘The Princess Bride,’ ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ ‘Misery,’ ‘A Few Good Men,’ and ‘The American President.’ The profound sense of loss we’re all feeling is heightened by Rob’s lofty standing in Hollywood, he was universally loved inside the entertainment industry. I did not know him as well as I would have liked, but he always made me feel like we had been pals for decades. Rob’s character was defined by the qualities we see in those films: kindness, decency, humor, compassion, and most of all, a belief in humanity.”
The evening will kick off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 with the TCM network premiere of “The Princess Bride,” followed by “When Harry Met Sally” at 10 p.m., “Stand by Me” at 12 a.m., and ending with “This Is Spinal Tap” at 1:45 a.m.
