For as long as humans have been telling stories, their heroic protagonists have chased after the Fountain of Youth, a mythical site that could reverse the effects of aging and death. It’s a timeless MacGuffin that has inspired centuries of explorers, and now it’s getting the Guy Ritchie treatment. The British director teams up with Apple for his new film “Fountain of Youth,” which stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as two siblings who chase the eponymous source of immortality on a globe-trotting adventure.

An official synopsis for the film reads: “‘Fountain of Youth’ follows two estranged siblings (John Krasinski and Academy Award winner Natalie Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives … and possibly lead to immortality.”

“Fountain of Youth” is directed by Guy Ritchie and written by James Vanderbilt. The film also stars Eiza González, Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, Carmen Ejogo, and Stanley Tucci. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Tripp Vinson, Jake Myers, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein produce the film, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Chad Villella, Tara Farney.

“Fountain of Youth” is the latest project for the busy director, who most recently directed “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” and is in post-production on the Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal-led thriller “In the Grey.” He has also been active in television in recent years, creating the Netflix series “The Gentlemen” and serving as an executive producer and episode director of “MobLand.” In his review of the new Tom Hardy-led series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that Ritchie’s influence is felt all over the show.

“’MobLand’ feels like a Guy Ritchie joint, top to bottom. The writer/director behind ‘Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels,’ ‘Snatch,’ and ‘Wrath of Man’ helms the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer on the series. Unlike the Netflix reboot of his 2019 film of the same name, ‘The Gentlemen,‘ he’s not a writer on ‘MobLand”'(Bennett and ‘The Agency’s’ Jez Butterworth handle the initial scripts), but he may as well be,” the review reads. “Harry is another classic Ritchie protagonist: a tough, loyal, put-upon fella who’s earned the respect of the criminal underworld he calls home, yet knows better than to trust that guarantees his safety.”

“Fountain of Youth” starts streaming Friday, May 23 on Apple TV+. Watch the trailer below.
