Essex College just lost one more student.

The Sex Lives of College Girls” returns for Season 3, which also marks the exit of core cast member Reneé Rapp. Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, and Alyah Chanelle Scott now lead the show.

Actress/singer Rapp appeared in “Mean Girls” and announced her departure from the Max series in 2023. Rapp starred as Leighton Murray, who comes out as queer in the first season of the college-set ensemble comedy.

“‘College Girls’ moved me out to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people,” Rapp wrote on social media. “Two and a half years later, it’s given me y’all and this community. Thank you Mindy, Justin, and everyone at Max for believing in me. A lot of queer work gets belittled, but playing Leighton has changed my life.”

Rapp continued, “I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave y’all a little bit of that too. She’s such a tiny part of representation but even the tiny parts count. I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her and y’all. I love that bitch more than you know. I’m so excited for this season and I can’t wait for you to see what we have coming for her and the girls.”

Rapp later shared that she wrote her song “I Do” about series co-star Scott, saying, “This feels so romantic in a platonic way, but I don’t understand how to explain it.”

The 10-episode third season will also star Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers.

The show is created by Kaling and Noble, who is the showrunner. Howard Klein, Kaling, and Noble executive produce, with Kaling International and 3 Arts Entertainment producing in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The IndieWire review for the first season praised “The Sex Lives of College Girls” for capturing the “lightning-fast familiarity it takes a dorm room to generate.”

“The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3 premieres November 21 on Max.
