A New Physical Media Label Is Releasing Some of Our Favorite Recent Indies — with a New Lineup Every Lunar Cycle

Exclusive: Video Visions will bring films like "Fuck My Son!," "Dead Lover," and "Hundreds of Beavers" to physical media enthusiasts each month, with specific drops remaining secret until the moon changes.

Have you ever felt yourself longing to put a copy of Todd Rohal’s “Fuck My Son!” on your Blu-ray shelf? How about Grace Glowicki’s aromatic monster romance “Dead Lover?” Or maybe a limited fur-covered edition of “Hundreds of Beavers?”

If any of the above speak to you, Video Visions should be on your radar. IndieWire can exclusively announce the formation of a new physical media label from Cartuna founder James Belfer, who has produced some of our favorite recent indie films like “Boys Go to Jupiter,” “OBEX,” and “Moonfish.” Video Visions will serve as a physical distribution outlet for both past Cartuna titles and other recent festival hits that reflect the same offbeat sensibilities.

“I found it imperative not just to help films get made and seen, but also to preserve and archive them,” Belfer said in a statement. “Movies have been disappearing digitally for years. But to quote Guillermo del Toro, ‘If you own a great 4K HD, Blu-ray, DVD, etc., of a film or films you love… you are the custodian of those films for generations to come.’”

In a fun twist on the typical physical media business model, Video Visions’ release schedule will correspond with the lunar calendar. A handful of new titles will be available to pre-order every month, with selections changing with the lunar cycle. The company is launching with five titles in its online store, and will announce a new slate on October 26 when the Hunter’s Moon begins.

The online Video Visions store is now live. And in 2027, Chatham, New York residents will be able to shop at a new brick-and-mortar video store of the same name.
